The species name can also be given as a 6 letter acronym, combining the first 3 letters of the genus name and the first 3 letters of the specific name. When multiple names match this acronym, you can select the correct one. Example:

The Atlas also supports the OpenSearch standard. The Atlas can be added to the browser as a search engine, allowing a search term entered in the browser to be searched on the Atlas as a species name, location or source. For example, adding the Atlas to Firefox 8x looks like this:
